Adani Power Shares Rise on Bhutan Hydroelectric Project Announcement
Adani Power Limited shares gained 1.22% to ₹651.50 following the announcement of a 570 MW hydroelectric project in Bhutan. The Wangchhu project, developed in partnership with Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corp, represents the first phase of a 5,000 MW hydropower initiative.
The joint venture will operate on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer model, with Adani holding a 49% stake. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, targeting completion within five years at an estimated cost of ₹6,000 crore.
The project addresses Bhutan's winter energy demand while exporting surplus power to India during summer months. Trading volumes reached 41.66 lakh shares worth ₹272.28 crore by midday, reflecting strong market response to the strategic infrastructure investment.
